My goal is to produce the most realistic and authentic dolls around.
Dolls so real and life like that one has to do a double take to know for
sure. These are not beautiful craft projects but works of
art with lasting quality that can be passed down from generation to
generation.
To begin this process I must make sure that
all artist oils adhere to the vinyl. I remove the manufactured color
from the body and face. I also remove any glued on hair
This is a lengthy process using solvents compatible with the vinyl .
A careful cleansing of the vinyl inside and out will assure that all
color will adhere nicely.
For the last two years I have
used Genesis Artist Color exclusively. This paint is not an oil or
an acrylic but a specially formulated new medium. It is
light fast, permanent and fully compatible with the vinyl that is the
canvas for my work. Human skin is not one color but is composed of
many colors including undertones and overtones.
I achieve
the look of authentic skin by coloring many layers of color. Again
this is a time consuming process and patience is a must as each layer of
color is achieved and cured before the next is added. I have no
formula for this process, I just add layer upon layer until
I achieve the look of real living skin. It is different for each baby
and part of what makes them so unique and one of a kind._small.JPG)
If I had to list one thing that people seem to repeat in comments about
my work is that it exhibits realistic detail. I have used my
experience with thousands of babies to envision the detail that I apply
to each of my babies. A common comment is " I can't believe how
much he/she looks like my son/daughter when they were born" In
order to give this detail, I have to be willing to go beyond the "pretty
baby doll look". I have to be ready to apply blotches and
mottling, petechaie, veins, and maybe a birth mark or two. Many of
these characteristics are very common to newborn babies and that is why
mothers recall
their own children
when they hold my creations.
